Friday we met with the Perinatal Loss Coordinator at Northside Hospital Atlanta. Our meeting with her (Ms. Alexander) was very informative as well as emotional. She basically took us through the labor, delivery, and after step by step. Letting us know what to expect and letting us know what our options are. We made some very tough decisions on Friday but I feel one step closer to being "ready" if there is such a thing. I think the most touching and reassuring thing about that meeting was to see and hear Alexander being treated as a precious human being. I was also touched with how she included Sean. Often times fathers are left out and I was really happy to hear her talk to "us" and not just me. I am grateful for how accomodating the hospital is to our wishes and are really bending over backwards to ensure we have what we want.
To give you an idea of our wishes/plans we have set in place through our Pallitive Care Plan - Alex will never leave us - not for one minute until we leave the hospital. There will be a team available to assess is initial condition - We (be it Sean and I or the children) will give Alex his first bath. I will try to breast feed. Comfort Care will be available (pain meds and oxygen). Those are just some of our wishes and examples of things included in a Pallitive Care Plan. As times goes on I will divulge more but something has to be left for the birth story :).
While everything about this feels unnatural I know it is needed.
So, I am currently 28 weeks and we have a busy week ahead. We still are meeting with the Neonatologist (I think on Wed) and my OB on Thursday. I may try to squeeze in the Perinatologist if we have time. Alexander is still moving a lot and he is growing every day. He loves to hear is Daddy talk - he just bounces all around :-) Oh...and he had his first Krispy Kreme Donut (well donuts) this weekend! WE loved them - lol.
